Oregon Sunstones are found in Harney County and in eastern Lake County north of Plush, Oregon, as well as in Norway. For many years, collectors have mined for these gemstones in Oregon where the U.S. Bureau of Land Management has established a free, public collecting area. With the exception of the BLM public collecting areas, all of these producing areas are held by mining claims and are not available for mining without permission of the claim owners.
