Statement
Joni has traveled to Madagascar three times over a seventeen year span, documenting rituals and beliefs found in remote areas of our world's fourth largest island. These images depict a Toby, a place where spiritual shepherds perform demon-driving ceremonies on the mentally afflicted. This work received an Honorable Mention from Px3's Human Condition Competition in Paris, France in 2008.
