It is a humbling honor to read what she has written, and also the various quotes by people (Jim Friedman, Shelby Lee Adams and Lewis Wall) who have greatly inspired me over the years.

What an honor it was when someone from the Ohio University communications department called and asked to interview me about a few images they curated from my website! Their Visual Communications program is well known in the country, and I highly respect their educational offerings in this field of study.
When I attended Ohio University, I wanted to be a Photojournalism major but my father did not permit it for various reasons. Having them initiate this discussion and sanction my work is a long held wish come true.

The imagery and sound I collected while in Ethiopia last November has been edited into a video and included in Mercy Corps’ new “A Girl Can” campaign. It is an honor to be involved in this effort to assist girls’ education in rural Ethiopia.

We just completed a video interview with Dr. Catherine Hamlin from the content I captured last October at the Hamlin Fistula Hospital. This video is being used by Hamlin Fistula USA as well as in Ethiopia.

My work documenting emergency obstetrics in rural Ethiopia was chosen to be in the American Society of Media Photographers “Best of 2011” project list. I am hoping that this will bring about increased understanding of the difficulties surrounding maternal health that are present in rural settings. The Ethiopian government is actively developing solutions to address these problems as quickly as they can, with minimal resources.
