Our FUNraiser at Darcelle’s was a smashing success, and a total blast of a party. The queens are amazingly talented, and we all did not want the show to end. Here are a few snapshots from the evening, and check out Dr. Philippa Ribbink channeling Janis Joplin here.
Thank you, Darcelle’s! We love you!

The Children’s Cancer Association just posted their 15th Anniversary video. They used many of the still images I have taken of CCA families over the years.
See the video here.
Luz Gallery will be printing a limited run of two images from Ethiopia. I will be donating all of my proceeds during December and January to our Footsteps To Healing medical project in Mota, Ethiopia. Once this edition sells out, these two images at this 6X9 will be retired.

KEEN just posted a blog entry about their donations of shoes to our ongoing project in Ethiopia. We are very grateful to KEEN for the donations of these shoes so that rural Ethiopian women will walk home more comfortably after their surgeries.
Melkamnesh loves her new KEEN shoes!
Please join me this Sunday from 12-4pm at downtown Portland’s World Trade Center 121 SW Salmon Street as we unveil the 2010 Children’s Cancer Association Hero Wall. The Hero Wall is comprised of 25 portraits of children and teens who have made an impact within our community despite facing severe medical conditions.
The Hero distinction is given to children and teens in Oregon and Washington who have exuded grace, strength and extraordinary character during their life-threatening illness. They stand unified to represent thousands of others who face similar circumstances.
While photographing these Heros over the past three years, I consistently am reminded of what is truly important in life: a tender exchange, an outreached hand, an appreciation for making each day the very best, an ability to take a few risks, and humor.
It has been an honor to learn from these Heros and their families.
Special thanks to Pro Photo Supply for file prep and printing of all of the images.
Our maternal health project in Ethiopia has been listed on the Oregon Health & Science University’s Center For Women’s Health website.
The screening of the movie “A Walk To Beautiful” and our own “Footsteps To Healing” newly released video drew a large crowd at the Hollywood Theater last week. We are humbled by the response many people have to the maternal conditions that occur in Ethiopia and other parts of the world.
The video I shot for our film was the first time I used the Canon 5DM2’s video capability, and I was amazed at the quality results.
My work surrounding maternal health in Ethiopia has been included on the Stirring The Fire website, and I was invited to chat with Phil Borges about the direction of the project. I will return to Ethiopia in January 2011 for a month, and perhaps as early as November 2010 to continue documenting the maternal issues which rural Ethiopian women face.
